Inaugural Try-a-Trade Day in Gunnedah a Resounding Success

Over 200 students and career advisors from across the region gathered in Gunnedah recently for the inaugural Try-a-Trade Day. The event showcased the diverse career opportunities within the mining industry and included interactive activities from several vendors.

“Whitehaven, in partnership with NSW Minerals Council and the PCYC, was delighted to support the inaugural Try-a-Trade Day in Gunnedah,” said Darren Swain, General Manager of Community Engagement.

“The event provided a unique opportunity for students and career advisors to hear directly from Whitehaven employees about their experiences and find out more about the range of different roles available within the mining industry.”

Students attending the event engaged in various hands-on activities and demonstrations designed to give them an insight into what working in the mining industry involves. The day also featured three guest speakers from Whitehaven, who shared their personal career journeys and insights into the industry.

“There were students from as far afield as Tamworth, Wee Waa, Narrabri, Gunnedah, and Quirindi, with around 200 participating on the day. Whitehaven would like to thank all the schools and vendors who participated, and we look forward to a bigger and better Try-a-Trade day next year,” Darren added.

The Try-a-Trade Day not only highlighted the exciting career possibilities in mining but also emphasised the importance of community engagement and education in fostering future talent within the industry.
